Kanye West is stepping into the spotlight in a new way with In Whose Name?, a raw documentary capturing the unfiltered reality of his life with bipolar disorder and the strain it placed on his marriage to Kim Kardashian.
In the trailer, released Wednesday, Ye reveals he has been off his medication for five months. Clips show moments of mental decline, tense conversations with Kim, including her telling him, “Your personality was not like this a few years ago” , and his personal reflections on faith and his decision to stop taking medication.
Directed by 18 year old Nicolas Ballesteros, In Whose Name? is the result of over 3,000 hours of footage filmed during years of following Ye through personal and public struggles. What began as silent observation turned into an in-depth look at the human condition, capturing contradictions of fame, identity, faith, and mental health.
The film also offers rare insight into how mental illness impacts perception and power, and how it’s often handled or ignored in the public eye. According to the synopsis, it “reveals a side of Ye the world was never meant to see — raw, unfiltered, and suspended in the complexity of fame, faith, mental health, and power.”
In Whose Name? arrives September 19, with its trailer now available to watch on YouTube.
