YNW Melly will remain behind bars for at least two more years after his double-murder retrial was postponed yet again.

The Florida rapper — real name Jamell Demons — has been in custody since 2019, accused of killing his childhood friends YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser in 2018. His first trial in 2023 ended in a mistrial, and since then, multiple legal motions have stalled proceedings.

On Friday (Aug. 8), the 4th District Court of Appeals granted a stay, pushing the retrial to January 2027. Melly’s lawyer, Raven Liberty, blasted the delay, noting her client will have spent nine years in custody without conviction if the date holds.

Prosecutors are also reportedly investigating Liberty for witness tampering, adding another twist to the already long-running case. If convicted, Melly could face the death penalty.
